TrinityChat Returns to Hav0c!

by Guybrush // Sunday, December 18th 11:18 pm

Dan has worked a few extra days this past month or so on updating Trinitychat, which was a medium that allowed communication between IRC and ingame channels. Despite some of the technical setbacks involved in the update, Dan has successfully made this available for use on Gryphon.

What does this mean?

  1. Players ingame can now communicate with GMs and other players in the IRC channel (or chatroom for those of you who use the web applet).
  2. Players can seek assistance from GMs who may not be online or ingame. Messages left in IRC are more apt to be seen (and can be logged) as opposed to submitting a ticket.
  3. Players who have an IRC client (or use the chatroom applet on the website) can communicate with either faction ingame.
  4. Any user in the IRC channels (not ingame) has a few commands they can use to query information from the GryphonBot.

What are the guidelines?

  1. Players cannot communicate between factions ingame. Messages typed cannot be seen by the opposite faction. Only IRC users will see both.
  2. Players will not use IRC to bait or harass members of the opposing faction. GMs will act swiftly and firmly against anyone who abuses the privileges GryphonBot provides.
  3. Ingame players and IRC users will not spam or flood the channel. Anyone caught doing so will immediately lose their privileges to both IRC and the ingame channels.
  4. All communication will be made in English, for the courtesy and convenience of Hav0c’s users. Communication in any other language must be done via private message.

How do I submit commands to the GryphonBot?

  1. First you must login. To do this, you must be using an IRC client (like mIRC) or be in the chatroom on the website (here). To login, double-click the GryphonBot to open a private message window. Then type ~login youraccount youraccountpassword
  2. GryphonBot will let you know if you have logged in successfully.
  3. Type ~help to view all commands available to you.
  4. Type the command without arguments to see the help information for that command (ex. ~lookup)
  5. All command feedback will be sent to you via private message.

How do I access IRC while ingame?

Ingame, you may join the irc-ally or irc-horde channel, depending on the faction your character is in. Bear in mind that you cannot see the opposing faction chat, so joining the opposite faction channel will not allow you to communicate with them. To do this, you must visit the channel through the chatroom or through an IRC client.

I want to use an IRC client, What information do I use?

Hav0c uses irc.gamesurge.net as its IRC network provider. Simply find gamesurge in your network list (mIRC comes preloaded with thousands of common IRC networks), and hit connect.

Gamesurge also provides account registration. If you are a premium member (have donated enough to earn VIP) you will get voice status in the IRC channels. You will need to create an account at http://www.gamesurge.net in order to be voiced in our channels.

If you are a casual IRC user, you do not need to create an account with gamesurge. Bear in mind, having an account does not reserve your nickname. To reserve your nickname while on gamesurge, you must be online.

Once you have connected to Gamesurge via IRC, you can join our channel. Type the following into the status window:

/join #hav0c-wow

You can also directly join one or both of the faction channels used to communicate ingame by typing the following:

/join #hav0c-ally
/join #hav0c-horde

If you want to join these channels immediately after opening your IRC client, you can add these commands to your perform file. To edit your perform file, hit ALT+E, and click “peform”. Make sure “perform on connect” is selected, and enter the commands (using line breaks to separate commands). Use the “Networks” dropdown to add commands to specific networks. If gamesurge / hav0c is the only network you will use for IRC, this is not necessary.

FAQ entries will be added later in the FAQ on the website to answer any future questions that may arise from using the GryphonBot. Please direct any questions you may have to a GM.

Please remember to thank Dan (C.O.) for his hard work in getting GryphonBot up to speed with the trinity core, and making it available for Hav0c’s use.
